An 1860's Civil War era craft...the popularity of Traditional Rug Hooking is seeing the largest resurgence since the 1940's and is growing nationwide. Using strips of pre-cut wool fabric, a cotton monks cloth foundation and a hook that looks much like a crochet hook with a wooden handle, Diane will teach the basic hooking methods. She will teach students to learn the "rhythm" of rug hooking while learning "loop to loop" and "row to row" hooking, diagonal hooking, turning a squared corner, and hooking points. You will also be given basic instructional handouts in a nifty binder.

The kit chosen for our beginners is called: Star "Hit or Miss" Rug (16" x 21"). It may not be a design of your first choice; however...it is definitely one that will teach you all the basics that will allow you to tackle most any pattern after that! Each kit comes complete with the pre-drawn design on the monk's cloth, pre-cut strips of hand-dyed wool, your rug hook, finishing tape & photo. A 12" No slip Morgan hoop is suggested for this class. You will receive a 10% discount on the hoop and any extra supplies purchased for this class. Click HERE to go to the 12" Morgan No-slip hoop.

Monthly Rug Hooking Club is available for continued help. Click HERE to go to the Rug Hooking Club. Bring your own lunch - drinks and dessert will be provided.

Wool Arts Club - 1st Sunday of every mo. 12:00-3:30 pm with Diane Daniels
Add to Design Board
Sku #: c-14665
This is a monthly open workshop that welcomes (first time) students to wool appliqué or (ongoing students) to rug hooking. ***First time wool appliqué students are required to have a basic knowledge of simple hand-sewing & embroidery stitches. ***First time rug hookers need to have previously attended our Beginner Rug Hooking Class with Diane. For Wool Applique, Diane will demonstrate how to use either freezer paper or Heat ‘n Bond fusible to make your pattern templates for your wool applique projects. In addition, she will help you improve your stitching or rug hooking skills, show you her favorite tips & tricks, help problem solve, teach finishing techniques, and see you to the end of a project or help you start a new one. Please note beginners will need to attend multiple workshops to learn all the techniques to complete a project. Important: Since each project will certainly vary student to student, ALL STUDENTS MUST CONTACT DIANE at c_seasons@hotmail.com to let her know what projects they are working on. That way she can make recommendations for what each student should bring with them to class so they can come prepared. For Rug Hooking, this club is designed for ongoing Rug Hooking students that have participated in one of Diane's previous Beginning Rug Hooking classes. The only exception that will be made is if Diane has seen your previous work and determines you have basic knowledge & are hooking at an intermediate level of proficiency. Diane will be on hand to encourage continued progress on your current rug projects and see you to completion. She will help you problem solve, share more of her many "tips & tricks", demonstrate some FUN & CREATIVE stitching & finishing techniques, as well as help with color planning a new project. Diane will have her strip cutting machine on hand for cutting your strips. Students must contact her prior to club meeting to let her know what projects they will be working on, especially if they are at a cross-roads, ready to finish a project, or ready to start a new one. That way she can make recommendations for what each student should prepare at home, and come ready for club. Contact Diane via email at: c_seasons@hotmail.com or by phone at: 978-456-6920. Please note which month you will attend in the notes section at the bottom of your on-line order.

Price: $20.00 per workshop
